Lower Preparatory School (Grades 5-8), powered by
Synergy Studio, is intentionally designed to build strong academic foundations while nurturing confidence, curiosity, and character.
Grounded in Mind + Character + Purpose, this program meets students where they are developmentally and academically, while guiding them forward in a supportive, highly relational environment. The Lower Preparatory School serves as a bridge - strengthening core skills while preparing students for the increased independence and rigor of upper-level academics.
The Synergy Learning Model
Lower Preparatory students learn through what we call the
Synergy Learning Model - guiding learners at their own pace, together.
This innovative model blends traditional instruction with future-ready learning practices, allowing students to progress with mastery while benefiting from collaboration and mentorship.
Students engage in:
- Traditional instruction for core skills and shared discussion
- Independent, self-paced work using workbooks and online lessons
- Small-group instruction for targeted support
- One-on-one pull-out instruction with teachers or tutors as needed
- Peer mentoring and cross-grade collaboration
- Technology-supported learning that expands access and personalization
Purpose-Driven Learning Blocks
The Lower Preparatory School operates on
Purpose-Driven Learning Blocks, allowing students extended time to practice skills, ask questions, and apply learning without pressure.
Longer learning blocks support:
- Mastery of foundational reading, writing, and math skills
- Deeper comprehension through discussion and reflection
- Opportunities for reteaching and reinforcement
- Confidence-building through guided independence
This structure prepares students for the more rigorous block scheduling they will encounter in high school.
A Mixed-Grade Learning Community
Synergy Studio brings together a small, diverse group of learners across grades, typically with
1-3 students per grade, learning side by side in a shared classroom.
This mixed-grade environment:
- Allows younger students to learn through modeling
- Helps older students deepen understanding by teaching
- Builds leadership, empathy, and responsibility
- Creates a strong, supportive classroom culture
Cross-grade coaching and collaboration are intentional parts of daily learning.
